Levodropropizine has been shown to be as effective as dihydrocodeine in patients with malignant involvement of the lung at a dose of 75mg three times daily. There was significantly less somnolence reported in the levodropropizine group. Â 55** The side effect profile of levodropropizine was also significantly better when it was compared to dextromethorphan in patients with moderate nonproductive cough, although both had similar antitussive activity. Rac-dropropizine (98% purity) was purchased from Aaron Pharmatech Ltd, Shanghai, China. Levodropropizine (LDP, 98% purity) was purchased from Combi-Blocks, San Diego, CA. Carbamazepine (internal standard, IS; 99% purity) was purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO). Acetonitrile and methanol were of HPLC grade purchased from J.T. Baker (Phillipsburg, NJ). Diethylamine (DEA) was purchased from Fisher Scientific (St. Louis, MO). Analytical grade ammonium acetate was purchased from Merck (Mumbai, India). All other chemicals and reagents were of analytical grade and used without further purification. The control rat K2.EDTA plasma sample was procured from Animal House, Jubilant Biosys, Bangalore, India.
