2C-B (bromo-2,5-dimethoxyphenethylamine), popularly known as Nexus, Venus, Bromo, BDMPEA, Bees, Erox, Synergy, Performax, Toonies, and Tusi, was first described in 1975 by the chemist Alexander Shulgin (Shulgin & Carter, 1975). Although it emerged with initially psychotherapeutic proposes, no legitimate therapeutic use was obtained. From 1991, however, it gained popularity after the publication of the book Phenethylamines I Have Known and Loved (PIHKAL), A Chemical Love Story, which details the synthesis of 2C-B and hundreds of other phenethylamine compounds (Shulgin & Shulgin, 1991). 2C-B has become widespread in Europe, the United States, and Asia on the club/electronic music scene as the replacement of choice for MDMA, LSD, and psilocybin. As a consequence, it has been classified on the list of new psychoactive substances (NPS) by the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC) (European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction, 2011; United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, 2013). More specifically, 2C-B appears as a hallucinogenic NPS substance, particularly as a psychedelic one (Tracy, Wood, & Baumeister, 2017).

This compound is suggested as an alternative to amphetamines, cocaine, methamphetamines, and methylphenidate, due to its stimulant properties (Drugsforum.com 2012–2016; Erowid.org 2013; Psychonaut.com 2013). Specifically, this compound can induce: euphoria (in 15 seconds, with maximum effect in one hour, lasting for 3–4 hours; 20 mg); sexual arousal reported in many experiences as an important effect: this effect is in common with 2C-B, 4-FA, 4-DMAR (Reddit.com 2014); tachypsychia; alertness.
