Considering the serious impact of mite infections on the health of laboratory rabbits and the associated economic losses in commercial rabbits, chemotherapeutic remedies involving macrocyclic lactones (MLs) are applied worldwide [3]. Psoroptes mites in rabbits are generally sensitive to MLs, e.g. ivermectin (IVM) [4,5], doramectin [6], selamectin [7–9], and moxidectin [10]. However, multiple treatments are needed to eliminate the mites completely. A failure case in the control of psoroptic mange was reported that parasites were still present after four weekly injections of IVM at a dose of 0.2 mg/kg of body weight [5].
