Some traditional methods, including ELISA, BCA or the Bradford method, and ultraviolet spectrophotometry, could be applied to quantify VLPs. Some new quantification methods have also been reported, for example, Goldin et al. used the polony method to quantify T4-like and T7-like cyanophages [149]. In addition, flow cytometry was applied to quantify human norovirus VLPs binding to commensal bacteria [150]. Its immunogenicity was detected using in vitro tests (e.g. haemagglutination inhibition tests) and in vivo immune tests (e.g. immunity and infection).
