Most modern military forces maintain an arsenal of theater ballistic missiles (TBMs) and cruise missiles (CMs). These missiles provide a long-range strike capability that shapes the battlefield for future engagements. A TBM is a missile that follows a ballistic flight path (i.e., a parabola). This means that it spends a significant portion of its flight subject to only the forces of drag and weight. A CM is a missile that is self-propelled, guided, and sustains flight through aerodynamic forces for all or most of its flight, and whose mission is to deliver ordnance onto a target. A fire plan specifies the number, type, and attack parameters of each TBM or CM to shoot in a single raid against a specific target.

A missile is a self-propelled guided weapon system that is propelled by a rocket engine. The first missile known as the V1 flying bomb was built and used by the Germans during World War II. A modern missile has four major components: a rocket engine, targeting, guidance, and warhead systems. Several kinds of missile have been developed in various countries for winning wars and colossal amounts of taxpayers’ money are being misused in fear of war. In other words, science and technological knowledge are being abused while misusing natural resources that could have been used for the development of humanity on this beautiful earth. A missile can be broadly divided into two categories: (1) ballistic and (2) cruise. A ballistic missile follows a ballistic flight path to deliver the warheads to a particular target. Its flight path is mainly guided by gravity except in the initial period briefly after its launch. Ballistic missiles are preferred for long-range and land attack missions where accuracy is not very important. These missiles can be launched from mobile launchers, ships, submarines, and underground silos. In recent times, long-range intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) are being designed and developed by several countries for carrying nuclear warheads. If some of these missiles are used by militants just imagine what could happen to life on this beautiful earth. I wish and hope that designers and scientists keep in mind the onset of a possible holocaust during their research work.

In the early twentieth century, the development of long-range missiles made them an essential part of combat techniques utilized by the military as well as other security services. This also offers a variety of features. Air-to-air missile systems, air-to-ground missile systems, sea-to-ground missile systems, and surface-to-surface missile systems are examples of missile systems. A basic building block of the guiding missile seems to be a single independent spacecraft with the capability to modify its flight path at lower elevations as well as close to a target. Even though guided missiles seem to be, essentially, used only just above the earth’s crust, guided torpedoes don’t really necessarily belong to this category.
