Direct, Discharge and Resist Styles of Printing
Published in Asim Kumar Roy Choudhury, Principles of Textile Printing, 2023
Glitter print is known as Zari print in the Indian subcontinent. Zari means gold or silver threads. Glitter printing enables the fabric to show glittering granules on the fabric. Glitter powder is generally polyethylene terephthalate (PET) with a size of 1/8” to 1/256”, cut into square and hexagonal shapes. Glitter powder is added in the glitter ink, while stirring slowly to avoid lump formation.

To make the e-textile structure sturdy and mechanically stable, and to overcome the challenges in the existing fabrication techniques, conventional embroidery and sewing have been used for fabrication. The proposed antenna is a four-layered prototype, as shown in Figure 1(b), with two layers of substrate between the patch and ground planes. The patch and ground planes were realized using Zari – silver conductive threads with diameter 0.05 mm and conductivity 62 × 106 S/m [25] were embroidered on the cotton substrate. Zari threads were not created with simulation as it is not possible to simulate such closely embroidered structures with tiny air gaps. A nonconductive cotton thread has been used as the back thread for embroidery to prevent short circuiting of the patch and the ground planes. The final prototype was fabricated by sewing the two embroidered layers at the ends and is as shown in Figure 4(a,b). A Sub-Miniature version-A connector was attached to the antenna feedline using conventional soldering.
