The role of patch hybridization on tensile response of cracked panel repaired with hybrid composite patch: experimental and numerical investigation

The cracked panel is repaired with the different composite patches as shown in Figure 5. Araldite 2011 consists of two-component epoxy (mixing ratio of 100:80 by weight) is used as an adhesive to bond the patch on the cracked panel. The properties of Araldite 2011 are: Elastic modulus E = 1.16 GPa, and Poisson’s ratio ν = 0.4, shear modulus = 0.4 GPa, mass density = 1.20 g/cm3.[25,26] The justification for selection of Araldite 2011 amongst other structural adhesive is presented in section 6.4. Adhesive layer of uniform thickness was applied over the abraded area of the aluminum skin and the composite patch. The patch and aluminum specimen were precisely matched and aligned at the already marked location. The specimen bonded with the patch was cured at room temperature. The release agent was drained out after 1 hour of the adhesive application by removing the pressure sensitive tape.
