This way of designating negative numbers, called a sign-magnitude representation, corresponds to the conventional way in which we write negative and positive numbers longhand, that is, we precede the number by its sign. Sign-magnitude representation has the following characteristics: The absolute value of positive and negative numbers is the same.Positive numbers can be distinguished from negative numbers by examining the high-order bit. There are two possible representations for zero, one negative (10000000B) and one positive (00000000B).

Notice that the left-most digit is set for a negative number and clear for a positive one. This way of designating negative numbers, called a sign-magnitude representation, corresponds to the conventional way in which we write signed numbers longhand. That is, we precede the number by its sign. Sign-magnitude representation has the following characteristics: The absolute value of positive and negative numbers is the same.Positive from negative numbers can be distinguished by examining the high-order bit. If this bit is 1, then the number is negative. Otherwise, the number is positive. There are two possible representations for zero, one negative (10000000B) and one positive (00000000B).

The output graphs and tables of sentiment analysis are shown in Figure 11.1. The sentiment scores range from –100 to 100. “Zero” is totally neutral. Any number above zero is considered positive, while any value below 0 is negative. The upper left corner of Figure 11.1 indicates that out of 20,000 entries, 5,550 are un-classified, 11,484 carry positive emotion, and 2815 are negative. The mean score of positive comments is 64.7, whereas the average score of negative feedback is –54.9. The distribution of the scores is depicted by the histogram.

In the master curve method, the quantity (ΔCEN(HD)) of CEN corrected by the diffusible hydrogen quantity is defined as the vertical axis with the common logarithm of the quantity of diffusible hydrogen in the range 1 ~ 100 mL/100 g as the horizontal axis. Since, when the hydrogen reduction process is used, the average value for the diffusible hydrogen quantity is 0.4 mL/100 g, which is outside the defined range, ΔCEN(HD) cannot be found. In the definition of ΔCEN(HD) by Yurioka et al., the case where the amount of diffusible hydrogen content is 5 is set as a reference value, that is 0 [meaning not clear]. A positive number is used in a range higher than 0, and a negative number is used in a range lower than 0. For the range higher than 5 mL/100 g, a curve is drawn with the log as the horizontal axis, but for ranges lower than this, the graph is a straight line. To make this usable in the present study, the ΔCEN(HD) of the hydrogen reduction process is obtained by extending this straight line into a lower hydrogen range, thus expanding the definition. The extended graph is shown in Figure 10.
