It is not possible to compare directly the overall costs of introducing Moodle with that of proprietary (paid) VLE platforms costs as the pricing of Blackboard Learn (previously known as Blackboard Learning Management system) is made known only after prospective users contact the company asking for a quote and further details. Here, it is important to bear in mind that Blackboard is most often purchased by larger educational institutions looking for a tailored VLE solution. Smaller institutions may find the information below useful in order to weigh all available options.

In Spring 2016, SBG rubrics (as described below) were used to assess student work on problems sets and exams. The project milestones were graded with criterion-referenced but non-SBG rubrics in Spring 2016 and SBG rubrics in Spring 2017. Teamwork was managed via the CATME SMARTER Teamwork System (Loughry, Ohland, and Woehr 2014) and teamwork skills were assessed using the CATME behaviourally anchored rating scale for self- and peer evaluation (Ohland et al. 2012) and verified by instructor observations, though there were a few teamwork skills related assignments graded based on completion. The remaining ‘other’ assignments were graded based on completion. All grading for this course was completed through Blackboard Learn™ (online course management system).
