Open GeoSMS is a text messaging format (SMS) used for the exchange of geospatial information in GPS and LBS applications and services. The Open GeoSMS protocol provides developers with communication between devices and/or applications to transmit localization data using text message encoding (SMS). Any application or service can send an SMS message using the Open GeoSMS format. In addition, any mobile phone has available SMS sending (no smartphone required).
