CHAPTER 7 Mixing
Published in Richard Turgeon, Indie Rock 101, 2012
Typically applied to lead vocal tracks so they stay in tune. This effect is often purposely over-applied in a lot of todaÿ s dance tracks in such a way that it makes the singer sound like a singing robot. That said, a little pitch correction can go a long way towards sweetening your tracks and making your songs sound a bit more “radio-friendly.” As with most everything, less is more here: exercise good taste and don't quash the realness and intimacy of your vocal tracks by overusing it. Antares AutoTune is arguably the best-known pitch correction plug-in, but most main programs have their own version.
CHAPTER 8 Pitch Shift
Published in Alexander U. Case, Mix Smart, 2012
Add to this the ability to analyze the pitch of a signal—to compare the performed pitch to an ideal, in-tune pitch—and pitch correction becomes possible. Pitch correction is the coordinated use of pitch detection plus pitch shifting, in which a performed pitch is adjusted by whatever amount necessary to make the new pitch acceptably close to a desired pitch.
Octave Error Reduction in Pitch Detection Algorithms Using Fourier Series Approximation Method

Along with the knowledge of fundamental frequency of a signal, having a knowledge about the harmonics present in a signal and their strengths enables us to explore lot more areas of application in these fields. One such example can be music synthesis where sounds of many instruments can be synthetically generated. This also finds application in pitch correction, pitch altering and so on. This also helps in improving the accuracy of pitch detection by giving an insight into the nature of the signal. Hence, in this paper, we propose a Fourier series-based pitch detection method to enhance the accuracy of pitch detection in the case of quasi-periodic signals.
