Pisarenko harmonic decomposition

Pisarenko harmonic decomposition (PHD) is a method used for fast frequency estimation in the frequency domain. It is a principal harmonics frequency analysis approach that was developed by Pisarenko and has close relation to other signal and noise subspace methods. Pisarenko studied the model in Equation 14.96 and found that the frequencies of the sinusoids can be obtained from the eigenvector corresponding to the smallest eigenvalue of the autocorrelation matrix. His method, known as Pisarenko harmonic decomposition (PHD), led to important insights and stimulated further work which resulted in many new procedures known today as “signal and noise subspace” methods.
