Ad Hoc Pervasive Environments
Published in Syed Ijlal Ali Shah, Mohammad Ilyas, Hussein T. Mouftah, Pervasive Communications Handbook, 2017
The media server is used to locate the multimedia content that is available to media renderers. Media servers include a wide variety of devices such as VCRs, DVD players, satellite/cable receivers, TV tuners, radio tuners, CD players, audio tape players, MP3 players, PCs, and so on. The media server contains (i) a ContentDirectory service which provides a set of actions that allow the control point to enumerate the content that the server can provide to renderers, (ii) a ConnectionManager service to manage the A/V connections associated with a particular device, and (iii) an optional AVTransport service that is used by the control point to control the playback of the content that is associated with the specified A/V transport.
Media Control Channel Framework (CFW) Call Flow Examples

This specification uses the same terminology as RFC6230 (see Chapter 8), RFC6231 (see Chapter 4), RFC6505 (see Chapter 9), and RFC6917 (see Chapter 11). The following terms are only a summarization of the terms most commonly used in this context and are mostly derived from the terminology (also see Section 1.6, Table 1.2) used in the related specifications: COMEDIA: Connection-oriented media (i.e., transmission control protocol [TCP] and transport layer security [TLS]). Also used to signify the support in SDP for connection-oriented media and the RFCs that define that support (RFC 4145 and RFC 4572).Application Server: An entity that requests media processing and manipulation from an MS; typical examples are back-to-back user agents (B2BUAs) and endpoints requesting manipulation of a third party’s media stream.Media Server: An entity that performs a service, such as media processing, on behalf of an AS; typical provided functions are mixing, announcement, tone detection and generation, and play and record services.Control Channel: A reliable connection between an AS and an MS that is used to exchange framework messages.VCR controls: Runtime control of aspects of an audio playback like speed and volume, via dual-tone multi-frequency [DTMF] signals sent by the user, in a manner that resembles the functions of a VCR (video cassette recorder) controller.
Delivering Windows Media to Your Audience
Published in Joe Follansbee, Hands-On Guide to Windows Media, 2012
Before you can install Windows Media Services, including Windows Media Server, you need access to a Windows Server, preferably Windows Server 2003 or later. You also need administrator privileges to install new software. Make sure the system is fully updated with all Microsoft patches, including security patches, before installing the media server.

Cloud based media server, transcoding service exposes interfaces to configure, manage, and monitor the media server. The interfaces used to send encoded stream through the streaming service, transcode it to multiple adaptive bitrate formats and deliver to the client player. It is also possible to start, stop, and pause the live stream programmatically using the REST API’s. The live broadcasting operations is illustrated with the help of Figure 6. The live broadcast operation starts with setup live stream entry point and configuring media source information’s. As soon as the live stream entry point created, the applications can initiate broadcast with another interfaces.

The specific process of video acquisition and transmission is as follows: firstly, the PAL analog video signals collected by the wireless network camera will be converted into YUV digital signals by video decoding. Secondly, the digital signal should be compressed into H.264 format by multi format codec. Thirdly, UDP header is added to the compressed data for RTP encapsulation. After encapsulation, the data is streamed by Live555 streaming media server, and RTSP video stream is encapsulated by ONVIF. Finally, Socket network programming will be used to transmit real-time video to the server by 4G network.
Digital streaming media distribution and transmission process optimisation based on adaptive recurrent neural network

The user's application of the data service starts from accessing the CDN server. Some basic information of users is also stored in the CDN server. In the model, the CDN server has functions such as content management, user authorisation, authentication, indexing, and redirection. Only when the CDN server's own bandwidth and processing capacity cannot establish a real-time distribution tree at this level, the user's access application is submitted to the core streaming media server.
