An e-book is a digital reproduction of a print book.5,6,13 The e-book phenomenon originated from the seminal work of Michael Hart in 1972 (cited in Ref. 3) Since then many efforts to digitize publications have been made. The recent development in the market of e-book readers and technologies has given an unprecedented dimension to the e-book phenomenon.13 Due to this, many authors have taken the opportunity to undertake research on e-books. Their studies were limited and revealed contradictory results when reporting student preference between electronic and traditional print books and did not take into account the specificity in the accounting field in their studies.

e-Books can be read using different devices such as desktops, tablets, or smartphones. In other words, the platform for e-reading may bring different effects on the behaviors of the e-book adoption. Their screen size will be different, and their mobility with mobile Internet technology may impact the use of e-books. As an initial endeavor, this study mainly tested the perception of use and uptake of e-books. Future studies may consider this platform difference for e-book adoption. Particularly, m-learning, using mobile devices for their learning purposes, has received attention from researchers recently [8,13].
