Mobile TV Technologies: A Strategic Overview
Published in Amitabh Kumar, Mobile Broadcasting with WiMAX: Principles, Technology, and Applications, 2014
DVB-SH services are set for a trial in the U.S. by ICO global communications based on technology from Alcatel Lucent. Mobile interactive media (MIM) services, which will be comprised of a full range of multimedia services will use ICO’s geostationary satellite (ICO G1, launched January 2008). MIM is also a hybrid system with satellite transmission and terrestrial repeaters. The services will operate in the S-Band as per the DVB-SH standard. ICO has also tied up with Clearwire for the use of its 2.5 GHz spectrum for delivery via the terrestrial mode.

DVB-SH is defined as a system capable of delivering IP-based media content and data to handheld terminals like mobile phones and PDAs via satellite. Whenever a line of sight between terminal and satellite does not exist, terrestrial gap fillers are employed to provide the missing coverage. The DVB-SH system has been designed for frequencies below 3 GHz in the S-band. It complements the existing DVB-H physical layer standard, and like its sister specification, it uses the DVB-IP Datacast (IPDC) as a higher layer.
Dual Plane Monopulse Comparator Network System using Substrate Integrated Waveguide Hybrid Coupler

A time-division multiplexing monopulse antenna system for tracking digital video broadcasting – satellite services to handhelds (DVB-SH) signal operating at 2.185 GHz S-band is developed using Microstrip PCB (Tsai and Hwang 2015). A compact single-layer SIW monopulse network for Ku-band tracking system applications has been demonstrated in (Chen et al. 2014). The performance of these SIW-based monopulse networks was validated by measurements and presented an alternative for Ku-band tracking systems or millimeter-wave systems.
