Developing Performance Support Products
Published in James R. Williams, Developing Performance Support for Computer Systems, 2004
The previous chapter covered information presentation as it relates to the user’s task and needs for information and cognitive and perceptual processing. However, online documentation does have some unique requirements concerning manipulation of the content. In addition, since systems providing online documentation vary considerably in their navigational structure and interface, users typically have not developed highly developed skills that can be transferred from one system to another. This fact also puts additional importance on the standardization of document structures and navigation facilities within the performance support system. Printed documents usually have a table of contents and an index. The table of contents is typically used to find major content items, while the index is typically used to find a specific item of content. Tables of contents and indexes are also often included with online documentation with the added advantage of being able to directly access the desired content by “clicking” on it.

Most word processors will generate tables of contents, lists of figures and lists of tables automatically and this feature should be used to develop these pages where possible. The information required is taken from the actual report so any changes can be reflected in an updated table of contents at the touch of a button.
Lease Issues
Published in Fred Hopengarten, Antenna Zoning, 2012
If the carrier’s or broadcaster’s draft lease does not come with a Table of Contents, add one. How could anyone sign a multi-paragraph, multi-page lease and expect to remember how to read it in 10, 20, or 30 years without a Table of Contents? Become familiar with Microsoft Word’s Table of Contents function, which can generate a table of contents automatically from headings within the document.
Student teachers’ satisfaction for blended learning via Edmodo learning management system
Published in Behaviour & Information Technology, 2018
In Turkey, the Information Technology-I (IT-I) course has been offered at almost every education faculty for four hours a week over two semesters, as also mentioned by Karatas (2014). The goals of these courses included: explaining the functions of computer system and its peripheral devices; remembering basic characteristics of operating systems; using desktop elements; configuring monitor and system adjustments; installing or uninstalling a programme; changing font of a writing in a word processor; making clipart, picture, and graphic operations; adding page number, icon, header-footer in a word processor; making page set-up adjustments; checking for spelling and grammar rules; making table-related operations in a word processor; making table of contents and index page in a word processor; and willingness to use a word processor in their own area of expertise.
