There are many CAD/CAM applications with parametric capabilities, but in particular, the use of OpenScad1 is easy to integrate into automated design solutions as it uses a plain-text model with a command-line interface. The language is easy to understand and can be easily parameterised. It is a free multi-platform software that employs Constructive Solid Geometries (CSG), and extrusions of 2D CAD designs to compute the STL (stereolithography) files needed by the 3D printing slicing software, as can be seen in Figure 2 .
