How DITA Evolved Into LwDITA

Markdown is a “text-to-HTML conversion tool for web writers. Markdown allows you to write using an easy-to-read, easy-to-write plain text format, then convert it to structurally valid XHTML (or HTML)” (Gruber, 2004). The CommonMark initiative, which aims to propose a Markdown standard, adds that it is a “plain text format for writing structured documents, based on formatting conventions from email and usenet” (CommonMark, n.d.).
