The ideas of smart home are feasible because the way of lives is expected to be transformed using IoT. Grave problems concerning privacy and cyber security is created through the use of this new phenomenon because of its ability of having enormous number of connected devices and making lives comfortable. The important technology that can be used to secure IoT is Blockchain Technology. In order to make sure that information passing through IoT will ensure accountability in addition to security of the participants, it is important to make use of blockchain technology because millions of devices are communicating and linked to each other (Rawat et al., 2020). Blockchain technology facilitates the usage of decentralized IoT platforms, for example, the data trusted in addition to secured data exchange as well as efficient record keeping (Crosby et al., 2015). Blockchain have the ability to manage Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication by making use of its automation and speed capabilities where the machine will have the ability to communicate or contact each other without any contact or command from the human (Evangelina & Cano, 2020).

Every object in a network is provided with a unique identification. An object can be a digital device, animal, human, and so on. When these are interconnected and transfer the information through the Internet, it is referred to as the IoT. M2M stands for Machine-to-machine communication, namely a machine connected with another machine by itself that does not require a human to be involved for further processing. M2M means connecting, managing, and collecting data from the cloud. M2M provides the IoT-enabled connectivity, which helps people to work smarter and to gain full control over their day-to-day activities. Devices and artefacts are linked to a network for the IoT, and its responsibility is to amalgamate information from the diverse devices and to share the meaningful information according to the application needs. The meaningful information is obtained by applying an analytics-based algorithm in the data that is received from the IoT devices.
Communication Technologies for M2M and IoT Domain
Published in Mohammad Ayoub Khan, Internet of Things, 2022
M2M stands for machine-to-machine communication. It is a concept where two or more than two machines communicate with each other using a wired or wireless medium without human intervention. M2M as a technology has existed for a long time, but availability of cheap and reliable communication networks in the present time has helped in the proliferation of this technology. M2M communication finds use in several applications like manufacturing, security, facility management, attendance systems, and point of sale (PoS) terminals. The term M2M in IoT describes the autonomous exchange of information among numerous devices inter-connected with each other.

Table 4 presents the sub-themes coded to be linked to the key themes for the external factors in BCT in RSCNs. In all cases, the managers of focal actors have indicated that they are looking for digital identity with new features, such as the identity of users of products, and other digital services such as loyal digital customers or suppliers. Few cases have shown the importance of M2M transactions that allow the creation of new sharing of electronics among the machines themselves to add value to their data/services in this ecosystem and operate autonomously based on IoT support.

Evolution of Internet of Things (IoT) and emerging 5G wireless networks have not only presented many opportunities but also introduced new challenges for the network operators. Machine-to-machine (M2M) communication, enabling autonomous communication between devices [1], is an indispensable part of IoT. A wide range of IoT applications like remote monitoring, health and environment monitoring, smart grids, smart homes, traffic security, intelligent transportation, personal navigation, e-pay, and industry automation are expected to be benefited from M2M communication.
