An Artificial Intelligence Approach to Environments for Modeling and Simulation
Published in Derek A. Linkens, CAD for Control Systems, 2020
KEMS encompasses a wide range of different tasks within a single application, and different parts of the system are coded in different languages. Because of this and the complexity of the application itself, the quality of the user interface is particularly important. We, therefore, decided to construct the user interface using a specialized frontend builder. The package chosen eventually for this task was Expert-EASE Systems’ EASE+. EASE stands for Engineering Applications Software Environment, and it is essentially a flexible graphics database management system which contains an interface development toolbox. EASE+ was designed for use by the process control, aerospace, telecommunications, manufacturing, and electric power industries for the construction of user interfaces and simulation, control, monitoring, diagnostics, and design applications. EASE+ can be mounted on either PCs or workstations, and as well as being a development tool, it is capable of producing run-time software modules.

The Amazon simple storage service (S3) is a Web services interface that offers access to the same highly scalable, fast, inexpensive, and reliable data storage that Amazon uses to run its own global network of Web sites. The easy storage facility of extensive data in the S3 is suitable for the research community, as it offers access and management of data remotely. The cost associated with server maintenance or storage availability has been reduced [50,51]. Bitzer [52] used the NI-LabVIEW and Amazon S3 cloud storage to monitor and control the smart grid operations. The NI-LabVIEW is a well-known graphical programming language that offers ease of interface, better data visualization, user-friendly programming and debugging environment, and parallel processing. The NI-LabVIEW has been widely used in various remote sensing and low-noise applications. In 2020, Sharma [53] designed the real-time data acquisition of ECG signals using LabVIEW.

Python and R are popular choices of programming language for NLP due to their relative ease of use and relevant libraries. Scikit-learn1 and the Natural Language Toolkit (NLTK)2 are powerful Python libraries; tm3 and topicmodels4 are powerful R packages for machine learning and NLP. In this study Python and R were used to analyse University College Dublin Mathematics Support Centre and Western Sydney University Mathematics Education Support Hub data respectively.
Tutorial: The LuxPy Python Toolbox for Lighting and Color Science
Published in LEUKOS, 2020
This article described the installation of the LuxPy toolbox and provided an overview of its basic design and functionality. It also demonstrated its basic usage by providing several code examples using a Jupyter notebook. It is hoped that the LuxPy package—written in an easy-to-learn open-source programming language—would be useful to many lighting and color researchers and professionals and would stimulate collaborative research and ease sharing of calculations and analyses.
