The cable TV utilizes RF carriers in the 47–860 MHz frequency range, and the incoming signal is brought to user installation by means of a coaxial cable. The digital bit-stream, of digital cable TV, utilizes quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) to modulate the RF carrier. The cable TV requires its own proprietary STB, which down converts and processes the incoming signal, as done by the corresponding STB in the case of satellite TV.
