The time-tagger is so named because it ‘tags’ input pulses on a number of channels with a time of arrival. This allows convenient digital post-processing of events, with the ability to find coincidences between different channels with arbitrary intra-channel temporal delays and with arbitrary coincidence window widths; the specific configuration used may be freely chosen after the data are collected. The result is a very powerful tool for applications ranging from singles and coincidence counting, to correlation-based jitter measurements (Section 2.4.1), to complex multi-fold coincidences (Section 2.4.2).
