Keuper

Keuper refers to a geological formation that is part of the Upper Triassic period, consisting of a mixture of fluvial and terrestrial clays, marls, and sandstones, as well as marine carbonates, dolomites, and gypsum. It is typically found in coastal flats, arid regions, and inland saline environments, and is characterized by weak clay formation that is responsible for a significant number of landslides in certain regions. The continental influenced Buntsandstein (Lower Triassic) of SW-Germany is built up by sandstone sequences interrupted by clay interlayers. Stratigraphically follows the marine Muschelkalk (Middle Triassic) with limestones, dolomites and evaporites intercalated by marls and mudstones. The Keuper (Upper Triassic) consists of fluvial and terrestrial clays, marls and sandstones interbedded by marine carbonates, dolomites, and gypsum. Most tracer tests in Baden-Wuerttemberg have been carried out in the marine Upper Jurassic, which is built up by limestones and marly beds. In the Upper Jurassic there exist two facies, the reef facies and the bedded facies.

Janin et al. (2015) modelled the mechanical behaviour of phyllitic bedrock by the advanced elastoplastic HS model. Möller and Vermeer (2008) used HS to simulate the mechanical behaviour of stratigraphy composed of a humanmade fill, a weathered Keuper Marl and a lacustrine limestone layer in Stuttgart, Germany. They also used the HS model to simulate a stratigraphy composed of humanmade fill, sand and clay near Rotterdam, Netherlands.
