restoration project of the exterior brickwork of the Pietrasanta Bell Tower consists of the following stages: pre-consolidation, cleaning, consolidation and protection. The pre-consolidation phase will be needed to safeguard detached parts of the facing that cleaning may make non-recoverable. We will go on to clean the surface of contaminants and to eliminate salts and salt efflorescence caused by wetting of the masonry. The Bell Tower's roof is overgrown with weeds, whose stalks and roots must be sawed away, followed by biocide treatment to prevent their recurrence. Lastly, we will waterspray clean the areas concerned. For the removal of surface deposits we will use soft-bristle and sorghum brushes, while for the more tenacious deposits we will proceed with cyclical applications of sepiolite compresses or Japanese paper added to

Two masonry types constitute the structural elements of the bell tower: one in pietraforte stone (sandstone widely used in the Florentine territory) (Coli et al. 2022) for the perimeter walls and one in clay brick for the interior vaulted structures. The stone and bricks, unlike the marble cladding, come from local areas, not far from Florence (Giorgi 2015).
