Synthesis and microwave dielectric properties of polyphenylene liquid crystal compounds with lateral substitution by methyl and fluorine

All chemicals used in this study are of analytical grade, unless otherwise stated. 2-Methylaniline, 3-methylaniline, 2-fluoro-4-bromoaniline, 2,6-difluoro-4-bromoaniline, iodine, sodium nitrite 4-n-pentylphenylboronic acid were purchased from GeAo chem. Co., Ltd. n-butyl lithium (2.5 M) and Trimethyl borate were obtained from Jiangsu Hualun Chemical Co., Ltd. 3,4-Cifluorophenyl -boronic acid, 3,4,5-trifluorophenylboronic acid, 3-fluoro-4’-butylbiphenyl -boronic acid and tetra (triphenylphosphine)palladium were obtained from MAISON chem. Co., Ltd. The products were purified either by column chromatography using silica gel (200–300 mesh) or by recrystallisation from analytical grade solvents.
