Particle size measurement of the samples was carried out in a laser particle size analyzer unit Bettersizer WD-2600® (Bettersize, China) in the wet mode. Diluted suspensions of platinum and PFA were prepared by ultrasonic agitation of the powders in an aqueous medium so as to achieve optimum optical obscuration of 5% to 10% for measurement. Tetrasodium pyrophosphate (Sigma-Aldrich, United States) was used as dispersant during suspension preparation.

Texture analysis was performed using a Microtrac S3500 laser particle analyzer. Prior to analysis, organic carbon was removed from dried sediment by oxidizing with H2O2, inorganic carbon by boiling in 10% HCl and added tetrasodium pyrophosphate decahydrate (Na4P2O7.H2O) (Konert and Vandenberghe 1997).
