Earlier, the enthalpies of formation of all intermetallic compounds in the Ce–Ni system are estimated using modified Miedema model by Niessen et al. [37]: Ce7Ni3, −25.0; CeNi, −39.9; CeNi2, −41.1; CeNi3, −34.8; Ce2Ni7, −31.7; and CeNi5, −24.4 in kJ (mol at)−1. However, it should be emphasised that the enthalpies of formation predicted by this model [37] are mostly more exothermic than the experimental results.
