In addition to permanent fibre installations, there are a number of means of introducing fibre on a temporary basis into wells (see Intervention Services, Section 7.8.7). Wireline, an armoured, multiconductor cable used for electrical measurements for many decades, has now been produced with optical fibres within the cable [27]. Coiled tubing (CT) is a continuous steel tube used to pump fluids and generally operate inside a well. CT strings are now commonly fitted with optical fibres within Schlumberger [28] for communications with a tool at the bottom of the tubing but also for DTS measurements [29].

Coiled tubing (CT) has been extensively studied for its incomparable advantage such as high efficiency, low pollution, fast moving properties and its technological relevance in various applications including well completion, well fracturing, cleanout fillings, etc. Buckling deformation of CT, which occurs in actual bore hole, is necessary to be carefully investigated, since it not only limits the maximum running depth but may further damages the drilling pipe itself.
