The precursors, i.e., cobalt oxalate nanostructures, were synthesized by using a water-controlled precipitation process [33]. Two routes, namely, (i) water/stock solution route and (ii) stock solution/ water route, were employed for the one-step synthesis of the 1D cobalt oxalate nanostructures. The stock solutions were prepared by dissolving oxalic acid (H2C2O4) and cobalt chloride hexahydrate (CoCl2·6H2O) with an equal mole ratio in either N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMA) or dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), to form transparent blue solutions.
