An example of this might be a small black box that runs Linux and has both an adapter and an agent running. The black box might also have a number of ports on it to speak to a wide variety of protocols as well as have one or more Ethernet ports on it. The adapter speaks to the manufacturing equipment using the physical port and protocol that the manufacturing equipment understands and then that adapter sends information to the agent using the SHDR protocol, which is a simple flat, fast, and low-latency human-readable protocol delimited by pipes (|) that is in ISO 8601 date–time format with optional decimal places. The agent then takes that information and makes it available in an MTConnect-compliant format. A specific example of this might be a black box that has a FANUC FOCAS adapter that is speaking to a FANUC CNC controller as well as the MTConnect agent on the same box that is accepting SHDR from the adapter and then making it available to MTConnect-enabled applications.

This data set provides a series of license plate numbers with timestamps for where vehicles are located and how they move about over time. Table 2 shows the original format of raw ANPR data. Note that all timestamps are in the format of standard ISO 8601 (i.e. format string “YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss”). ANPR data can also provide vehicle type information for managing buses, trucks, motorbikes, etc.
