Understanding the Correct Answer
Published in Nicole M. Augustine, Prevention Specialist Exam Study Guide, 2023
Think back to your knowledge of logic models. Outputs count the program activities such as the number of sessions, participants, trainings, etc. Answers A and D would be types of outcome data. Pre/posttests are a type of data collection instrument, where you provide a pretest before the program starts and then conduct a posttest after the program ends.
Genetic Counseling in Assisted Reproductive Technology
Published in Carlos Simón, Carmen Rubio, Handbook of Genetic Diagnostic Technologies in Reproductive Medicine, 2022
Pre-test counseling is the process of informing patients about a genetic test prior to having the test performed, to allow informed consent. Genetic testing should never be compulsory, and pre-test counseling therefore includes the opportunity for the patient to elect or decline the test (Uhlman et al., 2009). Pre-test counseling includes a discussion of the benefits of a test as well as the risks and limitations. This discussion ensures the patient is well informed when providing consent. Anticipatory guidance is an essential part of pre-test counseling. A patient should be informed about the potential outcomes of testing as well as how those outcomes could affect their medical care (Uhlman et al., 2009). Anticipatory guidance provides patients with the opportunity to explore how they might react to a given test result or outcome. Such guidance reduces shock, confusion, anxiety, and test regret upon the disclosure of results. Pre-test counseling sets expectations for a patient's medical management after the test has been completed.

The decision to proceed with prenatal screening or testing is personal and based on an individual woman’s reproductive goals and desires. Pretest counseling should include a discussion of the conditions being tested for, the expected performance of the test, and the risks and benefits of testing. Counseling should be nondirective and stress that prenatal testing is not mandatory. Ideally, this counseling should be performed by a certified genetic counselor or an obstetric provider with expertise in screening and testing.

The pretest survey took approximately 15 minutes to complete and consisted of questions that evaluated knowledge about common online sexual experiences for youth, perceptions of how these experiences impact student life where they work, efficacy discussing these experiences with adolescents, and general attitudes about adolescent sexual experiences. The pretest was administered online up to 7 days prior to the training. The post-test survey took approximately 8 minutes to complete and included all the same questions as the pretest except for the perceptions of the impact on student life. The post-test was administered in-person after the training or online for up to 24 hours. Participants were instructed to construct a unique ID comprised of their initials as well as their month and day of birth to allow researchers to match pretest and post-test data. During the training, participants were given cards to comment on during and after the intervention. At the end of the post-test, participants could also comment on anything they thought the research team should know.

This study is innovative and represents a much-needed contribution to the scientific literature on the topic of sexuality and stroke rehabilitation, which to date is not extensive. The fact that this research focused on the needs of different stakeholders in the hospital’s neurology program and used a collaborative research approach are among the study’s strengths. The use of a pre-test allowed us to refine the SIG and establish implementation strategies that could be adapted to the needs of clinicians and the context of a rehabilitation hospital. In addition, the use of a mixed research design to involve clinicians, a neurology program coordinator and stroke clients yielded a variety of perspectives, which gave us a deeper understanding of the factors that influenced the implementation of the SIG while allowing us to simultaneously explore the study’s impact quantitatively. The analysis of interviews by two independent evaluators using a validated method of thematic analysis [34] added to the credibility of our results. The use of a conceptual framework to analyze data, in this case, the CFIR [29], was also an asset because it allowed a better understanding of the determinants that influenced implementation of the SIG and comparison of our results with those of other studies.
Exploring factors associated with the use of tobacco and smokeless tobacco in Timor-Leste
Published in Journal of Substance Use, 2022

The instruments used in the survey consisted of household questionnaire, individual questionnaire and biomarker questionnaire. Household questionnaire was used to obtain information on household characteristics and household members’ sociodemographic profiles. Individual questionnaire comprised details of contraception, reproduction, gender roles, breastfeeding, child health, sexually transmitted diseases and other health topics. The biomarker questionnaire contained anthropometry and hemoglobin measurements. In an effort to improve the validity of the questionnaires, pretest was conducted. In the pretest, respondents were trained by interviewers and staff to administrate the questionnaires. The contents of the questionnaires and interview procedures were addressed. A workshop was organized to analyze the issues that occurred during the pretest. Then, the questionnaires were finalized based on the feedback from this workshop.
