Johnson et al.80 tested in mice the protective effects of prior infection with Leptomonas collosoma, Crithidia fasciculata, T. mega and T. melophagium. Data were not provided but the statement was made that protection against T. cruzi was observed in all cases, although to a lesser degree with the latter two organisms.

A research group at the Department of Biotechnology, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Hajipur undertook the quantitative secretomic approach and elucidated new secreted proteins in Amphotericin B resistant Leishmania donovani [194]. The research group at the Infectious Diseases and Immunology Division, IICB, Kolkata has explored the leishmania membrane proteins as a novel noninvasive signature for clinical visceral leishmaniasis using the immunoproteomics approach [195]. A proteomic analysis of Leishmania donovani and Leptomonas seymouri, by a group at the Biochemistry Division of CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), Lucknow identified proteins in the pathways for carbon metabolism and biosynthesis of secondary metabolites which were seen to be altered under stress conditions like drug resistance. The information could be used to treat patients infected with these parasites [196]. A different research group specialized in leishmania biology carried out the comprehensive proteomics study of the glycosomes from Leishmania donovani [197]. At the School of Life Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi another research group used the proteomics approach to understand the reprogramming of THP-1 cells when exposed to Leishmania donovani over early infection times [198]. At the Division of Parasitology, CDRI, Lucknow, researchers performed the membrane proteomic analysis of the Indian clinical isolate of Leishmania donovani by mass spectrometry [199].
