three-point starter work to expand Faraday's ideas. It was Thomson's work that Maxwell would extend into his seminal publications on electromagnetics. Thomson received a knighthood for his theoretical suggestions for the use of low-voltage signals in the transAtlantic telegraph cable. Thomson was proved correct when on a third attempt, a cable was laid and worked. An earlier high-voltage cable had failed. thoriated pertains to a metal to which the element thorium has been added. thrashing in a paging system, the effect of excessive and continual page transfers that can occur because the memory is overcommitted and programs cannot obtain sufficient main memory. thread in software processes, a thread of control is a section of code executed independently of other threads of control within a certain program. three-antenna gain measurement method technique based on Friis transmission formula in which the gain of each of three different antennas is calculated from a measurement of three insertion loss values (corresponding to all three combinations of antenna pairs) and the calculated propagation loss between the antenna pairs. three-gun color display a color-TV picture tube having a separate gun for each primary color (red, green, and blue). three-lamp synchronizing a method used to connect a three-phase power system in parallel to another one. In order to connect two systems, they must have the same voltage magnitude, frequency, and phase-shift. To determine that is the case, an open switch is connected between the phases of the two systems and a lamp is connected across the open switch pole in each phase. If the criteria previously listed are met, the lamps will all be dark. If there is a difference in voltage, the lamps will glow. If there is a difference in frequency, the lamps will alternately glow and go dark in unison. Finally, if the two sides have different phase rotations, the lamps will blink sequentially as only one phase can be aligned at a time. In order to synchronize the two systems, it is necessary to close the contactor when the phase-shift is minimum, which means that the three lights are dark. three-level laser laser in which the most important transitions involve only three energy states; usually refers to a laser in which the lower level of the laser transition is separated from the ground state by much less than the thermal energy kT . Contrast with four-level laser. three phase fault a fault on a three phase power line in which all three conductors have become connected to each other and possibly the ground as well. Three-Mile Island typically refers to a cooling failure at a nuclear power plant on the Susquehanna River in central Pennsylvania, USA in 1979. three-phase inverter an inverter with a threephase AC voltage output.

The source presented has the following advantages:the use of laser heating of the cathode makes it possible to control the current of the electron beam source by modulating the power of the laser heating of the cathode;the power of the laser radiation is transmitted to the cathode through vacuum and there is no need for electrical isolation of the laser from the cathode, which is at the potential of the accelerating voltage of the gun;a single-core high-voltage cable can be used for transmitting the accelerating voltage of the electron gun.

Capacitor bank and load coil is connected through discharge cables. A coaxial high voltage cable is used to provide discharge path to current. There is an option to enhance the current and frequency of discharge current by connecting another parallel cable in addition to the existing one. The effect of cable combintion on the discharge parameters is shown in Table 5. Single cable (SC) and double cable (DC) combintion are used with single bank (1B) and four bank (4B) at 15 kV. There is 18–26% and 15–23% rise in current and frequency, respectively, as the number of parallel cable increase from single to double. Rise in current and frequency is approximately 26.6% and 23.5% in single bank as compared to 18.75% and 15.5% for four bank. The effect of cable combination for four bank (4B) at 15 kV on the current pulse is shown in Fig. 9. Additional parallel cable reduces equivalent inductance and resistance of discharge path.[43] Therefore, there is an improvement in discharge current parameters such as amplitude and frequency of current in electromagnetic forming system. It can be noted from the figure that just by atteching a parallel cable in the discharge cable lead, there is an increase of 30 kA of current without changing any other condition of the circuit.

Mineral samples were treated by high power electromagnetic pulses (HPEMP) using a lab-scale unit (IPKON RAS, Moscow; FON, Ryazan). The high-voltage pulse generator is a separate unit, integrated on the unit frame next to the electrode block. The electrode block and generator are connected by a high-voltage cable. A continuous metal screen protects the generator. In the pulse generator, a voltage converter converts 220 V AC (50 Hz) to DC to charge the capacitive energy storage device of the nanosecond pulse generator. To treat sample the unit has a detached electrode system. The electrode system consists of a metal base (grounded electrode) with a rigidly mounted holder made of an electrically insulating material. The treatment chamber is located between the base and the holder (chamber 100x100x5.5 mm in size). Ground mineral material is placed into the chamber until completely filled. Another electrode (active electrode) is located above, to which the high-voltage cable is connected including the contact by which it is connected to the pulse voltage generator.
