Yarn Preparation for Weaving
Published in K. Thangamani, S. Sundaresan, Fabric Manufacturing Technology, 2022
A tensioner is provided to give tension to the yarn. There are two types of tensioners: One type is a disc type, and the other is a friction type. In the disc-type tensioner, the yarn passes between two discs. The tension is adjusted by means of adding additional weights on the top disc. In the friction-type tensioner, the tension is adjusted by changing the angle of contact between the yarn and the friction imparting element
Transmission Line Construction and Maintenance

Tensioner: A device designed to hold tension against a pulling line or conductor during stringing operations. The tensioner consists of one or more pairs of urethane or neoprene-lined single or multiple groove bullwheels in which each pair is arranged in tandem. Tension is accomplished by friction generated against the conductor that is reeved around the grooves of a pair of the bullwheels. Some tensioners are equipped with their own engines, which retard the bullwheels mechanically, hydraulically, or through a combination of both.
Offshore Production
Published in Sukumar Laik, Offshore Petroleum Drilling and Production, 2018
TLP and SPAR riser systems are virtually identical below the floater. The differences are in the manner of supporting and tensioning the riser at the top. TLP risers are supported by the hull buoyancy. The tension is provided at the load ring, which is supported by tensioners. Rollers at the TLP deck centralise the riser and accommodate the angle between the riser and the hull.
The global offshore pipeline construction service market 2017 – Part I
Published in Ships and Offshore Structures, 2018
Tensioners hold the pipeline in tension from the point it leaves the vessel to where it is laid on the seafloor and is measured in metric tons or kips.12The weight of the pipeline in the water column and the manner of its installation determines the stresses induced on the vessel and pipeline.
