However, since the beginning of the 21st century, concerns with environmental issues and rising prices of fertilizers have caused attitudes to shift. Using rock dust to alter soil conditions and improve fertility is the main premise of stonemeal technology (remineralizer). Several studies were conducted and researchers have increasingly shown how appropriate this technology is for Brazil (Theodoro, 2000; Fyfe, et al., 2006; Theodoro and Leonardos, 2006; Carvalho, 2012; Theodoro et al., 2013; Dalmora et al., 2016; Carvalho et al., 2018; Ramos et al., 2020), due to its vast territory, the occurrence of leached soils, the wide geodiversity, and huge agricultural area.

All being it, it is worthwhile noting that the popular reinforcement particulates used for the preparation of AMMCs are synthetic in nature, scarce availability and expensiveness made the production of AMMC’s affluent. Therefore, this pointed the need for an eco-friendly, low cost and readily available material that can be used as a reinforcement which could yield the same properties as that of the synthetic reinforcements. A very little amount of work has been reported on the Al reinforced with naturally available by products such as fly ash, rock dust and red mud (Kolli et al. 2020; Kumar et al. 2020). In the present investigation rock dust is chosen as a reinforcement particulate. Rock dust, also known as mineral fines, is a by-product of the crushing processes of rocks in the production of gravel aggregates. About 20–25% of the total production of quarry dust is left out to the atmospheric air as a waste material. The rock dust contaminated air, on long-term exposure leads to respiratory tract problems and visual impairments (Harteis et al. 2016; Marcia et al. 2012). So, choosing rock dust as reinforcement could address the above problems to a great extent.
