Once a project is shown to be feasible along most of the appropriate dimensions of its operation, the next step is to issue a request for proposal (RFP) depending on the funding sources involved. Proposals are classified as either "solicited" or "unsolicited." Solicited proposals are those written in response to a request for a proposal while unsolicited ones are those written without a formal invitation from the funding source. Many companies prepare proposals in response to inquiries received from potential clients. Many proposals are written under competitive bids. If an RFP is issued, it should include statements about project scope, funding level, deliverables, performance criteria, and deadlines.

Aligning expectations and perceptions of elevator maintenance stakeholders: an application of expectation confirmation theory

Generally, the clients formulate a Request for Proposal (RFP) for procurement. This document acts as an instrument through which clients communicate their expectations, requirements and the scope of the required services to the contractors (Xia et al., 2013). Thus, analysis of RFPs of elevator maintenance projects can effectively reveal clients’ expectations from EMCs. In this research, RFPs related to elevator maintenance projects were analysed, and expectations of BOs/other administrators of buildings (collectively referred to as ‘BOs’) were determined. Further, this research has also explored the perspective of EMCs towards these expectations of BOs by conducting a questionnaire survey. Finally, a comparison of the expectations and perceptions was also conducted to promote coherence among the parties.
Estimate and reporting of longevity for cardiac implantable electronic devices: a proposal for standardized criteria

This resulted in different estimates of the maximum expected longevity, especially for some types of devices (CRT-D, CRTD-MPP, CRT-P and Dual-chamber PM) when manufacturers’ data are compared to data obtained by standardized programming. The possibility to compare devices according to the same standardized settings may be useful in different settings, including device assessments for tenders, for procurement and for clinical decision-making at a clinical level taking into account patient age, patient profile, and comorbidities, all conditioning a variable expected patient longevity [24,27,31]. Future evaluations, in line with the approaches of Health Technology Assessments [32] will help to assess if such proposal will be implemented and employed for a more user-friendly capability to compare devices at the level of tenders for device procurement, selection of devices at the hospital level, or even selection of devices at patient level, in a multidimensional assessment of all the features offered by specific devices. In this perspective, registries and administrative databases will have the possibility to confirm the impact of predicted longevities on actual replacements along with time [33–35].
Achieving success and meaning in research maze shaped by the 21st century human civilization

Generally speaking, the day to day realities of researchers are no different from other professions. They have personal life and responsibilities. They are subjected to the dynamics of respective families, friends, and societies. At work, they do need to carry out several other daily activities in addition to the research pursuit. They teach students as well as fulfill the administrative service requirements of the university. Further, the increasingly market-oriented mechanisms of research management take away precious research time for associated works such as grant proposal writing; conforming to complex financial guidelines in the procurement of research materials and equipment; adhering to convoluted human resources policies and procedures for recruitment of researchers; getting familiar with the intricate processes of publishing in peer reviewed journals; nuances of networking with diverse providers of research funds and resources; and keeping abreast of emerging international trends and national priorities.
