Market research
Published in Richard Reed, Property Development, 2021
There are different types of market analysis possible including economic base analysis, marketability studies, investment analysis and feasibility analysis. The rapidly growing area of property market research embraces a number of different specialisms including information and database services, strategic and site-specific analysis, forecasting and portfolio analysis. This is a very specialised area and has substantially increased in importance due to its recognised potential contribution towards reducing exposure to future risk for the real estate developer. While significant advances have been made in the availability of property market information, a number of major gaps still exist and the benefits from conducting detailed (and often expensive) research are often underestimated. For example the application of GIS mapping in the real estate market allows the analysis of increasingly sophisticated and widely available data, however relatively few developers take the time to model the locational attributes and thematic mapping implications associated with their potential real estate development (Reed and Pettit 2018).

In order to determine the technical and economic feasibility of the mine, a number of pieces of information are needed: Market analysisData on potential customers, contract agreements, size and location of the markets, etc. needed to figure out the size and other peculiarities of the potential markets.TransportationSize and type of loads, property access, elevation of the mine and the customer sites, road system, etc.UtilitiesAvailability and distance to electric power and substations, location, right-of-way and the related costs for new transmission lines.WaterType, quantity, and quality of potable and process water, and source location, type, and the cost of aqueducts, etc.LaborLocal availability, type and quality, rates and trends, and the local labor history.
Demand-side Evaluation

Secondary and/or primary market data are collected and analyzed as inputs to the market analysis methodologies. Regardless of the type of research data selected, the estimator of market penetration must consider these factors: The accuracy of the data and its relevance to the estimating task at hand. The cost (time and money) to collect and analyze the data. The accuracy of the resulting estimate.

Technology diffusion is a complex process that combines technology with the economy and market (Utterback 1974). Among all models proposed to estimate technology diffusion, Bass diffusion model, developed by an American management psychologist Frank Bass (1969), is one of the most commonly used models; it has been used as a market analysis tool to quantitatively predict the demand for new products and technologies. From the early times, this model has been applied to washing machine, color television, refrigerators, air conditioners, and other products (Mahajan, Sharma, and Sharma 1986); up to now, its practicability and accuracy have been widely verified in electricity vehicles (Park, Kim, and Lee 2011), information communication technology (Cardenas, Matus, and Bagchi 2012), mobile phones (Tashiro 2016) and Internet (Bertotti and Modanese 2019; Huang and Chen 2010). At the same time, with the development of mathematical-statistical analysis methods, the Bass model has been improved to adapt to different situations (Islam and Meade 1997; Norton and Bass 1987; Pannhorst and Dost 2019).
Misperceptions in inter-functional supply management: work-share coordination vs. integrated cooperation

However, we also got some feedback that the functions do not work together in closely interacting teams. The understanding is more or less that coworking on supply management tasks is also one form of IFSM. E1: “When we work together, we distribute subtasks to each function. [ … ] For example, marketing and sales do the market analysis and prognostics to define required qualities and quantities. We, procurement, do supplier market research and so on. We share the workload among the business functions in the company and e-mail the results.”
