Deductive reasoning is when you look at an end result and then figure out – or deduce – how it came about. Deductive reasoning is the process of reasoning from the general to the specific. For example, since all squares are rectangles, and all rectangles have four sides, all squares have four sides.46
Area Measurement
Published in Joanne Kirkpatrick Price, Basic Math Concepts, 2018
The area of a rectangle is calculated by multiplying the length of the rectangle by its width: A□=lw
Formulae
Published in James Kidd, Ian Bell, Maths for the Building Trades, 2014
A formula is a method of expressing the value of a quantity in terms of its relationship with other values directly associated with it. We have already looked at and used several formulae; for example, in Chapter 7 the formula A = (L × W was employed to evaluate the area of a rectangle. The expression A = L × W is a formula for A in terms of L and W.

The average length and width of the minimum bounding rectangle of a shape (AMBR) is also the second geometric parameter. The higher the value of this parameter, means that the more scattered the shape is than its centre The smallest rectangle that can be drawn around an arbitrary shape so that all the points inside it or precisely on one of its sides is the minimum bounding rectangle (MBR), also known as bounding box (BBOX) or circumscribed rectangle. The relationship between W, Width, and L, Length, indicates the elongation of the shape in one direction (Figure 3). The four sides of the rectangle are on every occasion parallel to the x or y axis, either vertical or horizontal.
