Linear Programming
Published in Albert G. Holzman, Mathematical Programming, 2020
Parametric programming is an extension of sensitivity analysis. In our discussion of changes in the cost coefficients and right-hand side elements, we considered only one element at a time. In parametric programming we permit more than one element to be changed at a time, with the changes expressed as a function of a single parameter [7]. This is also a postoptimal analysis procedure.

Graphical parametric programming which links with BIM technology and structural calculation through input parametric files provide us with enormous possibilities and allow us a continuous and flexible design by giving us the possibility of projecting in 3D and being able to view and adjust the geometry in real time, interactively. To this must be added the data processing methodology, based on structural calculations with finite elements, the probabilistic methods, capable of extrapolating the structural behaviour from the storage of data from sensors that reproduce the real structural behaviour of structures already built, and the geographic information management methodology (QGIS). To all this is added the enhancement provided by 3D printing technology that opens a new and exciting path to us, although we are still in a preliminary phase, both on the small scale, with the construction of models or prototypes, and on real scales using CAD to construct projects designed with different materials. In summary, the development of graphical plugins and probabilistic and parametric structural calculations, together with 3D scale printing, are powerful tools that can assist us immensely in the initial design phase. Nonetheless, as has been stated the ultimate solution lies in “that extra something” the value added by the designer that is subjective and that lies inside each individual designer.
