This paper draws upon Lewin’s Force Field Analysis Model (Lewin 1951) as an operational framework to analyze the process of change and assist in identifying forces which propel initiatives forward or create barriers. Lewin’s approach has been widely recognised as an effective framework to plan and manage change (Burnes 2004; Cummings and Worley 2001; Cummings, Bridgman, and Brown 2016; Muldoon 2019) and describes change as a process shaped by the balance of the driving and restraining forces. Driving forces are catalysts promoting a change; restraining forces are inhibitors. Identifying and understanding these forces is important in successful management of change initiatives.
