Lindsey (2001) introduced the term ‘rationalization’ while describing the process of translating Gehry + Partners, free-form designs into constructible geometry. He defined the rationalization process as introducing mathematical ‘rules of constructability’ to legitimize ‘crazy’ geometry. Glymph et al. (2004) described rationalization as a process where handmade physical models are approximated by digital ones with geometric constraints that guarantee their constructability.
