The assessment of polished gems is usually done on the basis of the “4 C’s.” These stand for carat weight, clarity, color, and cut. Carat weight needs no further explanation except to note that the internationally used metric carat is defined as 0.2 g exactly. Clarity refers to the presence or absence of inclusions. Normally these are looked for with a 10× loupe. The descriptions have been adopted by most diamond grading laboratories and are based on the “International Rules for Grading Polished Diamonds” of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses. They range from loupe-clean to 3rd piqué (Table 1).

, which is not clear, is large at M=28. Thus, there is a tradeoff between clarity and magnification in moiré fringes. In this grating pattern, to achieve both high magnification M and clarity, u must be small. However, to make u small, a more expensive printing technology that can print very fine lines is necessary, which is undesirable because it leads to higher costs.
Mediating Role of Trust Between Leader Communication Style and Subordinate’s Work Outcomes in Project Teams

Clarity is a characteristic of good communication styles. Communication clarity has been regarded as expressiveness, message clarity, and explanation effectiveness, structuring direct instruction, elaboration, and message fidelity (Sidelinger & McCroskey, 1997). Clarity is defined as employees’ precise understanding of organizational goals and the means for achieving those goals (Edmund, Davis, & Liang, 2012). Among five characteristics of a dysfunctional team, clarity is paramount to overcome lack of commitment (Hackman, 2006). To reach commitment, establishing deadlines and communicating team goals throughout an organization are recommended. With communication clarity, project leaders are able to critically learn how to chase and hit high points (May & Mason, 2007). Clear, timely, and accurate delivery of project-related information can improve followers’ psychological attachment to their tasks. They will feel supported and identified as central parts of the organization and as contributors to project objectives (Ng et al., 2006).
Transparency of privacy notices and contextualisation: effectively conveying information without words

Clarity is the easiness of understanding and depends on the sentence structure and language (Hargis 2000). Clarity is central for correctly processing information and is a pre-requirement of the understandability of a notice (Antón et al. 2004). It was measured by collecting the agreement with three statements adapted from (Knijnenburg and Cherry 2016) on a 5-point Likert scale (from ‘Strongly disagree’ to ‘Strongly agree’): ‘The language of Foodit alert was clear’, ‘Foodit alert was difficult to understand’ and ‘I feel that the information in Foodit alert was explained clearly’. These items were presented only to the participants who answered ‘yes’ or ‘approximately’ to the filter item described above.
Avoiding apocalypse: clarity and collaboration

Let me emphasise this. The ultimate result of all that a systems engineer brings to an issue is clarity. Clarity of understanding, clarity of aim and clarity of process. Some would argue that this is what is provided by a fully rational approach, but this is not the case. Rationality is often a source of error and misunderstanding, mainly because of limiting assumptions and poor modelling. Rationality is not wrong, but it can be a hindrance. What matters is not traditional logic, but clarity.
