Over the last three decades, the increasing complexity of optimization problems has been accompanied by the advent of the modern computer that has resulted in a rise in the widespread adoption of optimization software. Recent advances in optimization problems including RCPSP would have been impossible without the use of computer-aided optimization modeling. Among the most common software packages used in optimization problems are AMPL (www.ampl.com), Artelys Knitro (www.artelys.com), and FICOXpress (www.fico.com), just to name a few. In the following section, the most widely applied optimization tools in the project scheduling domain will be discussed.

All models are solved by the Artelys Knitro software package, a commercial solver dedicated to nonlinear optimization. The final states, optimal decisions, and states in each AA during the planning horizon for all three models are recorded in Table 1. The corresponding AC, SSDC, and TPC derived from the optimal decisions and states are also shown in the last three columns of the table. At the same time, in order to provide more intuitive comparison, the states of every AA for every time period are depicted in Figure 4.
