Technological Development
Published in Edward Y. Uechi, Business Automation and Its Effect on the Labor Force, 2023
Advancements in computer technologies have led to improvements in saving and processing documents, images, and other complex file types. Block-level storage, for instance, provides greater reliability and increased efficiency in retrieving complex file types, which are stored in blocks as opposed to the conventional method of storing files in a file system. NoSQL allows a database to change to new data requirements that may not be known at the start of a project by eliminating the requirement of establishing relationships between data in several tables and instead creating key-value pairs on individual data elements. This is in contrast to a traditional relational database where all possible data elements need to be known beforehand. Server virtualization increases the speed and reduces the cost of provisioning new computer servers as needed by creating numerous software-based servers in a single physical computer server. Each of these software servers programmed to run a database or to process data can be created in seconds or minutes as opposed to a few hours for a traditional server. These example innovations highlight how engineers have solved technical problems to handle different data types and to serve and process data faster and reliably at larger scale.
The Basic Elements of Artificial Intelligence
Published in Frank M. Groom, Stephan S. Jones, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Business for Non-Engineers, 2019
Modern storage approaches tend to employ either a Block-level Storage approach, a File-level Storage approach, or an Object-level Storage approach. Block- and Object-level approaches are similar to and different from each other in some ways. Similarly, File- and Object-level approaches have similarities and differences between each other. However, Block- and File-level systems have major differences between them.
Cloud, Fog and Mist Computing in IoT: An Indication of Emerging Opportunities
Published in IETE Technical Review, 2021
Shwet Ketu, Pramod Kumar Mishra
In this section, Cloud, Fog, and Mist computing platforms have been evaluated based on bandwidth and latency, face recognition applications, and theoretical comparison of computing technologies. Some basic setups have been conducted prior to conducting the experimental evaluation such as setting up OpenStack on each system, configuration of nodes (Cloud, Fog, and Mist), and establishing connections to the Cloud. For greater clarity, four OpenStack modules such as Keystone, Nova, Glance, and Cinder have been installed and used [54,55]. Keystone is used for authorization and authentication while Nova is a compute module with simplified network functionality. Glance is used to managing a virtual machine image where Cinder is a block-level storage module.
