Similarly, let us take the example of streaming a 3D mesh, a popular application today for e-commerce. The goal here is to stream the 3D mesh to a remote location for rendering. Streaming would entail sending three vertices per triangle of the mesh to send the geometry information and then send the connectivity information (refer to Chapter 1). However, if we can stream one triangle after another such that every triangle is adjacent to the previous one streamed, we will need to send three vertices for the first triangle and one vertex per triangle for every subsequent triangle, thereby reducing the amount of data to be sent by almost 66%. Such a set of triangles is said to form a triangle strip. Therefore, a common kind of processing, called stripification, is to take a triangle mesh and represent it as multiple triangle strips (Figure 12.3).

A triangle strip is added into each patch to fit gaps, and a common boundary is a set of edges in the triangle strip as a polyline, which may increase the difficulty of bolus shaping and the complexity of bolus refolding. To generate a smooth curve in a 3D mesh surface without changing the shape of the original surface, a surface is built to use its intersection with the original 3D shape as the smooth cutting line.
