Considering ambient displays in the ASD context calls attention to the field of software visualization. Software visualization is a sub-area of information visualization that aims to foster understanding and insight in the software engineering process by visualizing the structure, behavior, and evolution of software (Diel, 2007). According to Paredes et al. (2014), ASD teams utilize a variety of visualization tools (e.g., dashboards, information radiators, and ambient displays) for designing, developing, communicating, and progress tracking purposes. These tools assist in facilitating knowledge sharing and awareness among team members in practices such as code reviews or software maintenance (Paredes et al., 2014).
