Open source physics

Open source physics refers to the use of freely available and modifiable software tools and libraries, such as OpenCV, the Point Cloud Library, the Eigen library, and Gazebo, that include underlying open-source physics engines. This approach allows for the development of physics-related applications and tools that are accessible, customizable, and collaborative. Thus, a user can perform simulations based on the QSS methods in real time in a very convenient fashion. In addition to their implementation in PowerDEVS, the explicit QSS methods of orders 1–3 were also implemented in Modelica [1], Open Source Physics, a Java-based simulation tool [7], and implementations of the first-order QSS methods can also be found in CD++ [6] and VLE [23].

Each shot was recorded using a tripod-mounted 1080p HD digital video camera with a shutter speed of 1/720 seconds. The camera was placed 1.5 m behind the shooter, centred to the basket within the sagittal plane and 2.5 m above the floor. Processing of the digital video for each attempt was done using Tracker 5.1.5 software (Open Source Physics Java framework). Lateral error, Δlat, is defined as the deviation of the ball centre from the sagittal plane when the ball intersects the horizontal plane at the height of the hoop.
