DM2 has three levels (DoD CIO 2017i): The conceptual level or conceptual data model (CDM) defines the high-level data constructs from which architectural descriptions are created in nontechnical terms, so that executives and managers at all levels can understand the data basis of architectural description. The logical data model (LDM) adds technical information, such as attributes to the CDM.The physical exchange specification (PES) consists of the LDM with general data types specified and implementation attributes (e.g., source, date) added, and then generated as an XSD (DM2 PES XML schema).

The chapter is structured around the following learning outcomes: Know modelling methodologies and techniques.Understand the tools and documentation required in a logical data modelling methodology.Be able to create a logical data model.Be able to test a logical data model.
Requirements Analysis
Published in Hans Jonasson, Determining Project Requirements, 2016
Both the conceptual and the logical data models fall in the domain of the business analyst. Often the organization will have data architects that assist with this, but the overall responsibility is the business analyst’s. The physical data model is for the developers. It should be noted that the conceptual data model and the logical data model can be the same. If your customer can understand the same level of detail and documentation that the developers need, it is OK to use the logical data model as the conceptual data model.
Model driven development of hybrid databases using lightweight metamodel extensions

The logical data model is used as a preparation for generating the physical model, and is therefore appropriate to separate the entities from which tables and collections will be generated. MySQL was selected as a destination RDBMS for PAIS Data Storage, whereas MongoDB was selected as a Document DBMS.
