If a file .Rprofile exists in the current directory or in the user's home directory, its contents are sourced. It then looks for a file .RData in the current directory, to load a saved image (either one created when you quit R, or one saved using the methods of Section 12.9). If a function named .First() exists (for example, defined in your .Rprofile, though it could also have been saved in the .RData file), it will be called. There are many additional details and ways to customize the startup behavior, for example via environment variables in your operating system. Use the command for more information.

Models can also be inserted into Gazebo interactively via the Insert tab in the Gazebo GUI, which can be convenient for constructing variations on the virtual world for experiments with the robot. A variety of models are available on-line to import. Additionally, Gazebo will look in the (hidden) user directory called .gazebo for available models; the .gazebo directory typically resides in the user’s home directory. Robots can be spawned into Gazebo in this fashion as well, although it is more useful to do so via the parameter server for better ROS integration.

Since NEXTSTEP is a multiuser operating system, each user needs a home directory or folder. This folder is pictured in the file browser with a house icon. Typically, a user keeps all personal files in this folder or its subfolders. At any time, some files and/or folders are selected. The enclosing folders are displayed in the browser. To select a file or folder, click on its name with the mouse. To select more than one, click on each additional one while holding down the shift or alternate key. All selected items must be in a single folder.
WeBWorK log files as a rich source of data on student homework behaviours

The WeBWorK system records every correct and incorrect answer submission in a plain text system log file. The information in this file is used when an instructor uses the ‘Show Past Answers’ feature of WeBWorK, which allows the instructor to examine the record of an individual student’s answers for a problem. The raw data can be obtained by the instructor navigating to ‘Instructor Tools’ – ‘File Manager’, locating the directory ‘/logs’ in the home directory, and downloading the file ‘answer log’. An example of several lines from such a log file is shown in Figure 1a. The columns are separated by a ‘pipe’ (vertical line) symbol, and provide the following data: date, user ID, assignment name, problem number, correctness of answer submission, time since Jan 1 1970 (in seconds), text of answer submitted. In the present work, we will only be using information from the first five columns, though as noted above the full file is also a source of data for analysis of answer patterns (Roth et al., 2008; Kime et al., 201718–21 Oct).
