Eigentrust

Eigentrust is a reputation management algorithm designed for P2P networks. It is a global trust model that evaluates each node's trust by gathering assessments from all other nodes. Flow models: In these models, trust or reputation is computed iteratively considering the long chain of transitive relationship between the entities. Computation of trust score considers opinions of other entities in the system. Incoming flow and outgoing flow concentrated on an entity is used to update true score of that entity. For example, ranking about an entity can be determined by considering how many of others referring that entity. Application of these models can be seen in Google’s page rank (Page et al., 1999) and reputation scheme given by Levien (2009). In Google’s page rank, hyperlinks toward the page rise its ranking and hyperlink from the page leads to decrease its rank on the web. Another example is EigenTrust model (Kamvar et al., 2003) used with peer-to-peer networks. In EigenTrust, repeated and iterative aggregation and multiplication of trust score derived along with transitive chain is used to make final trust score.

The trust model is mainly used for peer trust in P2P networks. EigenTrust is a global trust model proposed by Kamvar et al. It calculates the global trust of each node by iterating on the mutual evaluation between neighbour nodes in the network. In the system, the node evaluates the counterparty's reputation according to the number of satisfied or dissatisfied transactions. It provides a security mechanism to restrain the dishonest services of the node.
